Gwyneth Paltrow admits breakup was hard, but still puts kids first
Actor and blogger Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted that her separation has been difficult, but that putting kids first has helped her cope.
Those of us going through a separation might sometimes feel like it’s worse for us than anyone else, and that the rich and famous have it easy – especially when they come out with phrases like “conscious uncoupling” that make it sound as if everything has been smooth and amicable.
So it may be of some comfort to know that even an Oscar-winning actor and her rock star ex-husband Chris Martin have also experienced difficult times.
Speaking recently at the BlogHer event while promoting her blog ‘goop’, Paltrow said:
"Though we couldn't stay in a romantic relationship… our values are very much around the importance of family and the importance of those relationships and I'm lucky that we're aligned in that way.
"And it's been hard. We've gone through really difficult times with it but we've always said these children are our priority.
"What that really means is, 'Even though today, you hate me and you never want to see me again, we're going to brunch, 'cause it's Sunday and that's what we'll do!' The children are our commitment."
Paltrow recently stated that she hadn’t intended for the phrase ‘conscious uncoupling’ to be quite so prominent at the time of her separation.
Of course, no two breakups are going to be the same, and this particular one might be something of an outlier, but we can’t overstate the importance of striving to put kids first, whatever your circumstances.
