As of November 2014, a new government-funded scheme will allow separating or divorcing parents to access free family mediation sessions even if just one of them qualifies for legal aid.

Previously only the parent who was claiming for legal aid  was entitled to free mediation sessions, while the other parent had to pay.

The new scheme has been introduced to encourage more people to pursue out-of-court settlements during separation such as mediation.

According to National Family Mediation (NFM), family mediation is considered quicker, cheaper and less stressful than going to court. And 8 out of 10 people reach full agreement using our family mediation services.
